Two days in Cambridge
A contemporary Tom Davies lives in Cambridge near the center of the city. We are the same age and have kept in contact because we were at Cambridge together,both were keen rowers, then the London Hospital and then we ended up both in the Public Health field. He was the director of the UK's national cancer registry. He was also a lecturer at Wolfson College.
There were lots of stories and memories retold perhaps improved by the passage of time. I visited the Cambridge museum that my Grandfather E Saville Peck had started in 1936. They have a fairly new curator and I met her and the chair of the board of trustees to remind them of the early history of the museum and my grandfathers involvement until he died in 1955. I walked into Emmanuel College for a short visit where I had been an undergraduate 1957-1960. The photos below are mostly of Emmanuel. I was captain of boats in 1960 so had to take a picture of the boat club notice board.
I was also able to attend Evensong at King's college chapel. Superb choral singing in a space with about a 12 second acoustic delay.
One evening Tom invited friends to stay - one a Barrister and Judge, another works from home for JPMorgan Chase and the third Louise who is also Tom's housekeeper who was a personal assistant on the trading floor of the London Stock exchange for 21 years.
